In a year where Brett Favre didn't do too anything special statistically, ended his consecutive starting streak, and was plagued with injury and controversy, it may be possible that he has finally come to his senses.
The 41-year old quarterback has filed retirement with the NFL Monday after 20 seasons (16 of them with the Green Bay Packers). Now, although he has retired two or three times before, I think that this is finally it for the old gunslinger. Personally, I think it would have been better for his legacy if he didn't play this season. This year was the first year he was unable to start a game since Nirvana was all the rage. It was also the year of picture messages and massage therapists. But, I won't get into that.
The reason I liked this article was because it said that Favre believes that the Green Bay Packers will win it all. He said in an email to ESPN's Ed Werder
"[Packers QB] Aaron [Rodgers] is the best QB and the receiving corps is the best ever, maybe," Favre said in the e-mail. "But [defensive coordinator] Dom [Capers] and the defense gets the MVP award at this stage."
It is nice knowing that the future hall of fame quarterback is on your team's side.
Yeah, it might have been better if Favre retired this year. He’s going out with a fizzle rather than a bang, with many people remembering him for only the past year of his questionable actions and decisions. It’s a good time to retire before he gets hurt too badly. He’s really getting to old to duke it out with guys in their fitness prime.
ReplyDeleteI liked the fact that Brett Favre backed the packers and didn’t have any hard feelings. He is an outstanding quarterback and great representative of the NFL, regardless of supposedly sending obscene pictures via text message. However, I don’t think he sent any personalized notes or team memorabilia hats to you like Aaron Rogers. It will forever haunt my dreams if Aaron Rogers turns out to be more of a fan lover than Favre. I can’t and won’t believe that. Confess if you are lying about the hat story and I will consider still being your BFF (Best Friend Forever), BM (Best Man) and BDB (Best Dancing Buddy).
ReplyDeleteFarve's fizzle reminds me of watching a very painful final game for Michael Jordan. The team kept feeding him shot after shot and he could not sink one for anything. It was so sad to see such a legend missing hoop after hoop. It would've been better if Jordan would've stayed out on his initial retirement instead of coming back. Farve apparently missed the end of that era, since he repeated it nicely... or poorly to be more exact.
